Surroundings

Bariloche is located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park which covers 750,000 hectares of spectacular scenery along the border with Chile, framed by the Andes mountain range in the west. The most outstanding feature of the National Park is the splendor of its lakes. There are numerous snow capped mountain fed lakes in this area. The largest lake is the Nahuel Huapi.

As Bariloche is surrounded by forests, mountains, rivers and lakes, this offers a wide variety of landscapes throughout the 4 seasons as well as a wide range of adventure activities. You can practice: horse riding, trekking, paragliding, mountain biking, climbing, canopy, rafting, kayak, windsurf, kitesurf, diving, fly-fishing, polo, golf. In winter, skiing and snowboarding, at the largest skiing area in South America, the Cerro Catedral winter sports centre.

To the West of the town you will find Avenida Bustillo, which borders the south shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi. These kilometers of gorgeous coastline are scattered with a diverse range of accommodation, restaurants and craft shops.

The beautiful majestic hotel Llao Llao, perched on top of a hill and overlooking the lake is at kilometre 25. A famous picture postcard view. Colonial Suiza with its vibrant weekend craft market is located nearby.

From the “kilometers”, as the locals call this part of town, you can catch a local bus, which passes each 20 minutes and access almost all the typical excursions, hiking and trekking in Bariloche.
